Spring Cleaning Sarah Style

Where have I been? I know what you are thinking..and I'm sorry =( Not only to my readers but more to myself. I was on the magical road to become a raw foodist and even got there as a fruitarian, but somwhere down the line I got lost. I stopped being creative, I stopped writing and most importantly I ended my obsession with healthy eating and exercise. Some may say, I started "living" and enjoying but yes I did get to indulge and "enjoy" but I aslo got myself a nice little H Pylori nightmare experience. In a way I am glad this happened because I finally figured out what has been wrong with my stomach for the last 20 years! YES 20! I always blamed it on stress because that was the only diagnosis doctors could come up with. Stress at 14? I mean yes I was a little mature for my age but stress? I now know the best thing to do for me is to eat "boring" food. Healthy food is boring when you have been eating whatever you want for months. I now have to slowly transition back into my old lifestyle. Just think of it as taking candy away from a baby. WAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA!

I tried a few times to say "ok starting tomorrow," but for some reason I just couldn't find the will power. Part of me was like oh "EFF it" just enjoy life. Slowly this started creeping up on me, but surprisingly my weight stayed exactly the same, which is odd. This also made me lack in motivation, people were even asking me if I lost weight. I knew what I had to do, I may have weighed the same and been way more fun than someone like mom who just eats salads all the time, but I felt like crap. I lack energy and just feel sluggish all day long.

Everyone knows that you cant study or get work done in a messy space right? So how can I live in a cluttered mess and expect myself to have a clean diet? It just so happens that it is spring time, so what better motivation than some spring cleaning videos and tips. I decided to go on a journey of decluttering my house. At my apartment, I would do this every sunday and then go on a hike, somehow when I moved home, this only happened once a week when it was "cleaning day" and I had no choice but to do it. Enough about me, lets talk decluttering...

Here are a few things I read or saw while trying to gather some tips on cleaning up my bathroom:

-take a second (not more) holding an object and figuring out whether you want/need it

-whatever you decide to get rid of, either donate, give to a friend or my personal favorite...give it to mom!

-clean all your brushes using this amazing little soap that comes with the beauty blender! I have tried many things on the market that smell so bad and like chemicals, I really think this item will change your life! no more bad skin because cleaning brushes is a total drag

-start using some of the things you bought and forgot about! it's a new season, wear a new lipstick shade!

-if you haven't used it in one year toss it! the reason I say year is that for example I have a foundation, dark lipstick and perfume that I only use in the winter, so the 6 month rule wouldn't apply to this

-the job can be overwhelming so if you get anxious don't stress and start categorizing, this way everything really has a place, here is a list I made

I used these plastic drawers from Big Lots to put this in my everyday section which can either go under the sink for a nice bare look or next to my sink, since I will be using this day and night whether or not I wear makeup that day so needs to be closeby.

Skincare:

Drawer 1: facewash, eyemakeup remover, toner or wipes for lazy days (who are we kidding, almost everynight)

Drawer 2: moisturizer, all serums that promise me I will look 18 again, any oils and my favorite of all Vitamin C

Drawer 3: masks and weird lotions and potions that are for people that have all this time to sit home and put a mask on their face and wash it off .....I promise I will use you guys someday and not just once a year when I get bored and freak out that I need a facial

Now that we have our skin down...let's move on to make up

I separated each drawer into a category: Obviously we don't all have the same type of space, so get creative with the space you have, dollar stores are fun cheap ways of doing this. I also bought these little boxes from Ikea for a dollar each that I use to store my make-up. Get fun colors or all white depending on what you like. I bought white for the ones that everyone sees and hot pink and yellow for the ones that I hide in the drawers.

Drawer 1 BASE- foundation, powder, concealer, highlighter (this can also go next to bronzers but I had a little of a space issue since I am obsessed with bronzers and blushes) contour stuff, you name it! I also cut out these words like "Base" for example from Allure magazine and taped it to the side of my drawer.

Drawer 2 EYES- tons of eyeshadow, anything eyebrow related, lash curlers (trying to overcome the fear of these things) eyeliners, you get the idea

Drawer 3 LIPS and BLUSH-definitely my favorite drawer. Not a huge lipstick junkie, I basically get hooked on one and wear it for like a year or two...but I have tons of lip balms which don't really work =( Drinking water works =) which I don't do and this other scrub that I love  (sorry can't find the name cause it suddenly vanished but try to make your own with sugar, they sell it at Nordstrom)
ok the Blush has two seperate boxes one for actual Blush and the other for bronzers, 99% of which I haven't touched yet but plan on experimenting with this summer on my endless journey to look like JLO  ;)
Oh I would like to add this is also my favorite drawer because it means I am almost done getting ready, and the mascara from the eye drawer usually is the last thing I do in my favorite mirror...the car mirror (hoping guys aren't reading this ...pretty sure they hate this)

Drawer 4 Body Lotion, hand cream, oils, perfume, deodorant, sunscreen (see how I am pretending I own sunscreen?) This is also kinda like a "it didn't fit anywhere else" miscellaneous drawer....oh and my new favorite scrub by Fresh which I love, lemon sugar..next time I will try to make my own, bodywashes, razors, wax ...all that fun stuff oh and first aidish stuff like Advil, thermometer, neosporin etc.

Under the sink....

Left side is blowdryer or should I say dryers (I had an entire blowdryer I forgot I had) curling irons, flat iron . A little basket for hair ties, bobby pins and hair bands.

Right side is all hair products, girl stuff, all nail related stuff (which I never use so plan on getting rid of somehow)  A cute cup for my make up brushes, need to buy one more or find one in the kitchen (when mom declutters it) trash bags for bathroom

In one separate drawer (this was empty but if you don't have this, these can go on the counter ...where mine might honestly eventually end up anyway) anything eye related like contacts, solution, glasses (if you are blind like me) toothpaste, floss, toothbrush (makes more sense to keep outside but looks nice if everything is put away when you have guests, whatever you keep your Q-tips in and last but not least my favorite item of the moment, my candle jar with my cosmetic cotton pads, I get these pads from the dollar store or 99 whatever they call it these days. The jar was a candle I bought on the way to Mexico because my friend Talin taught me that it is always nice to have a candle lit in your hotel room to get rid of that "hotel" smell and feel more like home. Love this idea but bought a Voluspa candle, which smells great but unfortunately lasts like less than a week. These are pricey too and have very cute packaging so I felt really bad throwing it away. Instead I figured out  how to clean it and make it into the perfect jar to store my pads. I boiled some water and let it sit in there so all the wax would come to the surface. You have to let it cool so be patient, I did this while I was also waiting for all my brushes to dry. After it has cooled, drain the water with a strainer and throw away the wax, otherwise you will clog your drain. With some soap and water just do a final cleaning and you are ready to use your candle jar for jewelry or whatever fun ideas you have for storage.

I'm still not 100% done with my transformation because I am also getting rid of a few items that need to be replaced, I am having trouble replacing these items but you may find it kind of amusing. One is my hello kitty boom box, it plays CDS and I realize that no one buys those anymore but it has sentimental value =( I need to replace it with an iPod player or something and give my kitty to a little girl that will love it. Tear. I also have these really cool little photos that I had in my room when I lived in Beirut like 25 years ago no joke, that I found about 8 years ago and hung up...they got old and started ripping but they are so cute, thinking of either replacing them with some cool artwork or maybe some nice quotes since I love those inspirational things first thing in the morning. I will probably hit up Marshall's for that, maybe even cute frames and put some pics....I will post a photo when I find something. Oh, I also put an orchid that my friend MJ bought me that was in my room. Why not decorate my bathroom with nice flowers? I love staying in hotels so I kinda wanted to give my bathroom a hotel vibe. My last "hotel" vibe is my chromebook, I play fun youtube make up tutorials while getting ready, kinda like when those Vegas bathrooms have TVs in them...

Alright I have alot of work ahead of me with my room and closet and the rest of the house...off to Marshalls bye for now....

fun hotel floral inspiration ( Ritz ,Cancun)
Drying my brushes and beauty blender, hang down so wood doesn't get damaged

leave a note so no one touches your candle project :)

bye bye radio?

meausring my cute little artwork to find a new replacement ..what do I do with these? throw away? too cute!

Kinda looks like I'm moving out...maybe I am ;)
