Sweet Potato Indian style

Image
Indian food. Ok, let me start of by saying that I don't have a great relationship with Indian food. I wish I did because when people say they are going to "Indian"  I'm like oh that sounds so cool and something different from the usual sushi that usually comes up when dining out in LA. So, a few years back I had a bad experience with Indian and by bad I mean my body rejected it. I do love Indian culture from the movies to their clothing, music and the woman are oh so beautiful! I kinda even think I look Indian so I decided I need to give this another shot. After all I can't ask people to be open minded about being vegan if I am not open to trying new things myself right? I looked up sweet potatoes on youtube and found this wonderful recipe. The entire house smells like an Indian restaurant, which is such a nice change from the usual smells that come out of our kitchen (onions and olive oil usually). I am so in love with this recipe only because I am so proud of my...

Lazy Beans

Image
I decided that I refuse to eat  beans in a can and bought some dried black beans. Boy was that a mistake. I mean ya, it's great there's no preservatives blah blah blah but who's got the time? Well, if you are like me and bought some dried beans and they are just sitting in your kitchen, I have got some solutions for you. Here is what I did on my lazy Oscar Sunday, after going to the farmers market of course  Btw don't ever go late to the farmers Market all the good stuff is gone =( If you have canned beans scroll down to the recipe and pat yourself on the back! Make sure you wash the nasty sodium off of them first though.        First, you get the beans and you wash them (look this isn't fast so do this on a day that you are bored and feel like just lounging around) Boil the beans with some water for 2 minutes..a cup of beans takes about 2 cups water. Let this sit for an hour. Go to your favorite blog and start read...

once you go Farmers...

wow what a challenge...still having trouble with the third meal at night. Started tracking my calories on my fitness pal because per 801010 book I should be eating my ideal weight by adding a zero at the end plus the calories I burn daily. It is difficult to be around people that eat "normal" vegan food especially when its in in your own home. I have still stayed completely vegan but I guess I consider it cheating because it hasnt been raw? My biggest challenge has been bread ...I've only had pita which I guess isn't that bad. Going to restaurants and watching people eat entire breadbowls or french fries has actually been not that bad. I usually feel so sick after eating fried food or too much bread. Anyways tomorrow I'm going back to the farmers market because once you go farmers it sure is hard to go back to regular fruits. The oranges and tomatoes in particular woooooooooooow! so good that I am willing to get up early on a Sunday! I guess I should be proud of...

To Raw or not to RAW that is the question

100% that is...So I have read and been trying to follow the 801010 diet for a couple weeks now and I will tell you a little about how I am feeling. Breakfast has been great! Wake up to a new day and eat a mono meal of bananas, oranges or  papaya. I try to find a sunny part of my kitchen and just sit there and enjoy. Lunch has also been a mono meal and a few hours after breakfast I am ready to have my lunch. So far so good right? well, then comes dinner time. I live with my parents and my mom makes a cooked vegan meal every night. From soups to rice and vegies, it's been really tough saying no to that and eating a salad with some orange juice. Every time I have a cooked meal I think to myself wow this is so yummy I should just give up this 801010 thing all together..but! then there's how I feel after. When I finish my meal I start feeling some stomach aches and start remembering what it's like to eat "regular" food. Then I wake up the next day starting all over a...

LENT and VEGAN

Besides the fact that Easter is my favorite holiday, keeping lent about 4 years ago was actually the first time in my life that I realized that a Vegan diet is really easy on my stomach. I have been reading 801010 but having a bit of a difficult time being in a house with cooked food and socializing with friends and staying on track.Although sometimes I would cheat on my vegan lifestyle Lent is a great time for me because it's the only time that I refuse to cheat. It also makes it easier for people around me to accept the fact that I won't eat because in my community it is socially acceptable to be on lent and give up all animal products. I do have to admit I have a had some bread here and there this weekend because sometimes I am looking for that "cheat" thrill but can't get my "high" off of dairy. I always say this is a process and it truly is. This will take time. I can't read 801010 and just all of a sudden think I will wake up and just eat fruit...

Happy Valentines Day!

Why are there Blenders on my Valentines blog? Instead of buying someone a box of chocolates or roses (well you should probably do that anyway) if you really love someone you want them to be with you as long as possible right? Well then get them a tool that will help them eat healthy and stick around for a while! Adding fruits and vegetables to your diet will really change your life. I really do believe that. Add a dash of love to that equation and you have got the best life ever! I love you all and I hope that you find some love today but first and foremost within yourself. <3

Dinner quinoa with tomato sauce and pinenuts (which I now know to eat in moderation bc they are part of the fat) My new "junk" food I love dates and they are a great on the go snack to keep satisfied and carb up..they are high in calories though so I will try to eat them more on or before a gym day yummy greens with broccoli, bell pepper and grapes  zuchini yum quinoa chocolate pudding (before starting the raw  Journey  would find anyway of eating chocolate yum) honey dew. throw it in a blender and its delicious! Carrot juice!  An Armenian dish dolma, took out the meat from the recipe and switched it up with some quinoa turned out great! mom taught me how to make these look perty  I used to put flax seeds in my smoothies but dont need the extra fat no mo' Have I told you lately that I love you? Love this Blender! Turn simple OJ into a delicious treat by blending it with some  pineapple afte...

fruity tooty Tuesday

What a journey it has been! So I started off this blog eating an Armenian/American diet with a vegetarian twist. My favorite foods were bread, potatoes and cheese oh and sushi of course  I barely ate much meat besides the occasional burger and some home cooked stuff my family served. I used to eat sushi at least once a week and barely any fruit. Here I am about 8 months later getting closer and closer to my raw Vegan goal. I used to think my goal was only to be a raw Vegan but after reading 801010 I know that it is more about being a low fat raw vegan. Raw vegan can be unhealthy too because I can be eating yummy fats all day like almond butter and avocados. What is 801010 raw vegan? well its 80% carbs (derived mostly from fruits) 10% protein (from fruit and leafy greens such as kale) 10% fat (nuts and seeds and my favorite the avocado). Before starting 80 10 10 I started to cut out dairy but I replaced my "addiction" with avocados and lots of nut butters with gluten free whea...

Super Bowl of fruit

Where does this take place you ask? At the farmers market Ofcourse. My mom has been very supportive in buying me groceries to help me get on the right track even though she still buys some dairy and bread for my dad but I've learned to let that go and leave them alone(well sorta trying) anyways I thought it work be a great idea to go to the farmers market with her :) Super Bowl Sunday is just a day of eating pizza and Doritos and maybe that was ok for me in the past but I am no longer that girl. Don't get me wrong it sounds delicious but the way I feel after is not too great. Off I go to my super fruit bowl :)

hi there hey there

ok so the whole water fast thing wow that really messed me up. So while I was doing it the first day I felt pretty powerful and got a chance to really think about how food effects us but by day 2 I was getting really weak. Day 3 morning I was ready to kill my mother for suggesting it lol. So when I got home I ate an orange which tasted pretty yummy but it was almost like my tummy was depressed. My stomach was like "you weren't nice to me I don't even want to play with you anymore." Well my stomach definitely believes in revenge! Before I did this fast my stomach was pretty strong, I didnt have a full on six pack but if I kept to my gym schedule my stomach was pretty much almost completely flat most of the time. During the fast it was amazing how flatter and flatter it would get in such a short amount of time. I mean who doesn't love a flat stomach right? but guess what ! As soon as I got off the fast and I started eating ....ugh maybe more like feasting. My body p...
