LENT and VEGAN

Besides the fact that Easter is my favorite holiday, keeping lent about 4 years ago was actually the first time in my life that I realized that a Vegan diet is really easy on my stomach. I have been reading 801010 but having a bit of a difficult time being in a house with cooked food and socializing with friends and staying on track.Although sometimes I would cheat on my vegan lifestyle Lent is a great time for me because it's the only time that I refuse to cheat. It also makes it easier for people around me to accept the fact that I won't eat because in my community it is socially acceptable to be on lent and give up all animal products. I do have to admit I have a had some bread here and there this weekend because sometimes I am looking for that "cheat" thrill but can't get my "high" off of dairy. I always say this is a process and it truly is. This will take time. I can't read 801010 and just all of a sudden think I will wake up and just eat fruit only and that's it. I was really hard on myself when I "messed up" my 801010 ratio but I now realize that this is only part of my journey. I also gained about 5 lbs whether it was from skipping the gym (bc of my knee) or for eating more calories which I have to do according to the book. I have read on many blogs that it is normal to gain a little weight in the beginning but  because of what we have been taught all our lives gaining a few pounds kinda freaked me out! I do admit though I feel like this is just my way of trying to find excuses to just give up. It is so much easier and more acceptable among others to eat a "normal" diet and drink alcohol or smoke or do whatever else everyone is doing. If I really want this bad enough I have to stick it through and just stay on track and if I fall off the wagon just get right back on. It's Sunday night, I have stuck to being a vegan for about a week but I have had alcohol and cigs this weekend :/ Tomorrow is a new day, a new week and a new chance to get back on 801010 and back to the gym. Besides my bananas are waiting for me ;)
