fruity tooty Tuesday
What a journey it has been! So I started off this blog eating an Armenian/American diet with a vegetarian twist. My favorite foods were bread, potatoes and cheese oh and sushi of course I barely ate much meat besides the occasional burger and some home cooked stuff my family served. I used to eat sushi at least once a week and barely any fruit. Here I am about 8 months later getting closer and closer to my raw Vegan goal. I used to think my goal was only to be a raw Vegan but after reading 801010 I know that it is more about being a low fat raw vegan. Raw vegan can be unhealthy too because I can be eating yummy fats all day like almond butter and avocados. What is 801010 raw vegan? well its 80% carbs (derived mostly from fruits) 10% protein (from fruit and leafy greens such as kale) 10% fat (nuts and seeds and my favorite the avocado). Before starting 80 10 10 I started to cut out dairy but I replaced my "addiction" with avocados and lots of nut butters with gluten free wheat free bread. I was thinking, hmm I can definitely get used to this its yummy but guess what it was not as healthy as I thoughts. Ofcourse it was a step above eating mac ncheese but it was still very high fat! The high fat was comforting and I found myself eating an avocado everyday and also bread and nut better for either breakfast, lunch or dessert..oh and as a late night snack. I was wondering why I was eating so clean but I wasn't really losing weight? Duh! Fat makes you fat! It's pretty simple. I kind of knew it in the back of my head but I just kept ignoring it and kept going. I would work out hard and then eat my "junk" food and I started getting more toned and just maintaining my weight. I was ok with that but I kind of wanted to take it to the next level. Then I was hit with a knee injury and had to skip the gym and started freaking out because my clothes started getting tighter and tighter. The weather in LA had become incredibly cold which was not what I was used to and I just felt myself going down a downward spiral of just not working out and eating unhealthy and kinda just feeling negative about life in general. This didn't last very long because I knew with all I had learned and all the efforts I had made to get healthy there was no way I was giving up this easily. I knew I was ready to go for it! I bought the book 80 10 10 I bought my bananas and loaded up on all kinds of other fruits. I couldn't put the book down. It all made sense to me now. Yes fruits and veggies wasn't a new concept but low fat was.
You are wondering what am I eating? How it going? have you lost weight? How do you feel? Do you really eat that much fruit all day? Yes! Let me show you! Oh, I also have to say that I am in the "transition" period now so I am still eating some cooked fruit at night. I also find it kind of hard with social situations so I have kinda just been laying low and hanging out at home alot. Today I am going back to the gym, going to take it easy and just stick to cycling until my knee completely heels. I really miss body pump and boot camp but I also know that I have to take care of myself so I can be strong enough to do it in the future.
My next post will be mostly pics of what I have been eating etc. As far as the weight issue goes. I put away my scale for a while and have decided to focus on getting healthy. In about a month or so I'll probably take it out to see my progress, for now I am just using my jeans as a scale and they seem to fit just fine.
Please email me if you have any questions! I would love to hear from you. Sarahloves14@gmail.com
