Core Power Yoga VS Yoga Works

After a few weeks of attending several different classes at Yoga works I must say that my heart truly belongs to corepower yoga. I do enjoy the barre classes at Yoga works but overal the way I feel and look after classes at corepower are extremely different. Although corepower is pretty much a repetition of the same moves every day, the heat of the classes and the energy of the studio and instructors is just overall  on another level. The reason I decided to try out Yoga works is because they also offered pilates and cardio barre type classes at a more reasonable price than corepower's membership which is more expensive but worth the investment. I would like to give yoga works a fair shot so I will give it a few more weeks and see how it goes. As far as convenience, it's much easier to walk out of a class and not be drenched with sweat not able to run an errand or do anything for that matter besides go straight home and shower. This is the one thing about core power yoga which ...

Change of Heart

This may come to a shock to some of you. Yes, I completely believe in the raw vegan lifestyle but honestly it's so challenging. I have been eating dairy. Can you believe it? I read some of the P90X book and started wondering what would happen if I started eating some eggs and dairy as protein. My stomach doesn't feel too great but I have been maintaining a good weight for now. I lost about 10 lbs since I stopped doing 801010..which I will be the first to say I was probably not doing it right? maybe I should have been more active than just going to the gym an hour a day. Anyhow, I have been doing hot yoga and eating much less fruit and I dropped weight instantly. I have been eating egg whites for breakfast every day with an herb called soumak. It has this lemon/salty flavor which I love. I use the Trader Joe's coconut spray which is pretty much like if Pam and coconut oil had a baby. Please note that it does contain soy, which  I am not a fan of. I al...

Meatless May

Let's get real, most of the vegans out there seem like they are perfect and never eat meat or dairy. Well, that's great for them but that's definitely not the case with me. I am a young woman who struggles with staying on the vegan diet every day. I do feel like this is part of the process and I hope I'm right. I have been less strict on my diet to say the least. I've been eating sushi and dairy lately and although it's delicious...it's not making my stomach very happy. I have been doing yoga which has made my tummy flatter than ever. Unfortunately my tummy only looks good on the outside but is a big mess on the inside. Did my stomach get used to the vegan lifestyle? Perhaps it did but these are the same problems I had when I was a teenager. Trouble digesting food and almost always feeling "sick." Sounds terrible right? Well you think that would be enough to get me back on track but it hasn't been. Why? well it's been fun. Yes, fun. It'...

I miss you guys!

Hi all! long time no blog! Where have I been? At yoga!!! hot yoga that is..... Corepower yoga had sent a week free flyer that my dad received in the mail. He thought his health obsessed daughter might be interested ..not knowing that he was giving her the best gift ever. I can not begin to tell you how amazing these classes are! Life changing to say the least. I have lost 5 lbs in about a week or so, not to mention my mood and energy have tremendously improved. I promise to tell you more about this but as of now I will just tell you to find a studio near you and try it for a week FREE! yes! free!!!!!!!!!!! you will love it!

Day 1 Juicing

I decided to do a juice fast as a way to get myself back on the right path. Here is what I had for breakfast..   bag of carrots   parsley   apple   spinach   grapefruit   orange I'm watching Fat sick and nearly dead for motivation. Let's see how many days I can go =) As far as how I feel..it's about  2 in the afternoon...i feel extremely full and my energy level is definitely up. Feeling very positive =)

Vacation

I just got back from a vacation. Where did I go? Non-veganland! So, about 10 days ago my family had some people over from out of town and my mom made this incredible feast and not a single thing was vegan. Not to blame it on my mom's delicious and tempting cooking, but I caved =/ It's the first time I have ever broken lent. I do realize that quitting smoking, drinking and becoming a vegan may be a little much to handle at once. So I ate it all, I had a little piece of a meat dish which is kinda masked by bulgur, I ate cheese and chocolate later that week and pita bread which I know is vegan but it's still processed. I did feel kinda disappointed in myself but it's the whole pull the arrow back to make it shoot further method (can you tell I'm a Sagittarius?) I had been doing really well but I did kind of feel like it was a lot of pressure. I DEFINITELY plan on being vegan again starting today. Don't get me wrong I didn't go out and eat hamburgers I barely ch...

omg brown rice breakfast

WoW i AM SO excited to tell you about this. So brown rice and veggies for dinner can get really boring so I decided why can't I switch it up and have it for breakfast! I can! I love breaking rules! So I got this idea from  Bethenny Frankel's video on brown rice breakfast. So simple!!!!!!!!!!!!!  All I did was microwave a precooked bowl of brown rice ( I get these at costco) add 1 banana sliced up and a few dashes of cinnamon. That's it! It was so yummy =) The banana was browning so it was enough sweetness so that when you mix it with the cinnamon you really have no need to add any type of sweetner. You can also add some almond milk if you want. Fast. Delicious. Easy. Done. I would post a pic but it was so yummy I ate it all ;)

Oatmeal

Hi! How are you? Quick post about my breakfast lately. I stopped the 801010 for now and trying to find more info on the best breakfast that will keep me full as well as give me enough energy to get me through my day and an intense workout in the early evening. I have a box of my steel cut oats in the pantry and I have been experimenting with that lately. There are so many ways of eating the oats. I guess you are supposed to soak them over night but I am not very good at planning ahead :/ I kinda just want to eat when my stomach says she wants to. here are some of the ways I have been experimenting with oats... -throw a tbspoon  in your smoothie raw -blend oats with double amount of blueberries with some water ...this keeps you really full -eat 1/4 cup with 1/2 cup of almond milk a half cup of berries ( berries are great you can have more if you want ) 1 banana sliced up                           ok I don't thin...

Getting Wild!

Image
Keep your pants on I'm talking about rice! So you may have seen my post last year about how I messed up on a wild rice recipe. I decided to give it another whirl. I was recently at a friends house and she was serving wild rice and it looked nothing like mine. Apparently, I had under cooked my rice. I followed the directions on the bag the first time but when I did some research I found out that it needs to be cooked about an hour with maybe some more water than was suggested. I ended up using about 4 cups per 1 cup of rice. I kept adding a little bit of hot water as it was cooking but I started off with about 2 1/2 cups at first. If you have any suggestions on how to cook wild rice I would love to hear from you! So lets start cooking! As I was cooking my rice I had lots of time to start chopping up my veggies into tiny pieces and cooked them down into a nice savery base. Here are some pics and steps.. got this at Whole Foods  chop chop this celery into tin...

Sweet Potato Indian style

Image
Indian food. Ok, let me start of by saying that I don't have a great relationship with Indian food. I wish I did because when people say they are going to "Indian"  I'm like oh that sounds so cool and something different from the usual sushi that usually comes up when dining out in LA. So, a few years back I had a bad experience with Indian and by bad I mean my body rejected it. I do love Indian culture from the movies to their clothing, music and the woman are oh so beautiful! I kinda even think I look Indian so I decided I need to give this another shot. After all I can't ask people to be open minded about being vegan if I am not open to trying new things myself right? I looked up sweet potatoes on youtube and found this wonderful recipe. The entire house smells like an Indian restaurant, which is such a nice change from the usual smells that come out of our kitchen (onions and olive oil usually). I am so in love with this recipe only because I am so proud of my...

Lazy Beans

Image
I decided that I refuse to eat  beans in a can and bought some dried black beans. Boy was that a mistake. I mean ya, it's great there's no preservatives blah blah blah but who's got the time? Well, if you are like me and bought some dried beans and they are just sitting in your kitchen, I have got some solutions for you. Here is what I did on my lazy Oscar Sunday, after going to the farmers market of course  Btw don't ever go late to the farmers Market all the good stuff is gone =( If you have canned beans scroll down to the recipe and pat yourself on the back! Make sure you wash the nasty sodium off of them first though.        First, you get the beans and you wash them (look this isn't fast so do this on a day that you are bored and feel like just lounging around) Boil the beans with some water for 2 minutes..a cup of beans takes about 2 cups water. Let this sit for an hour. Go to your favorite blog and start read...

once you go Farmers...

Image
wow what a challenge...still having trouble with the third meal at night. Started tracking my calories on my fitness pal because per 801010 book I should be eating my ideal weight by adding a zero at the end plus the calories I burn daily. It is difficult to be around people that eat "normal" vegan food especially when its in in your own home. I have still stayed completely vegan but I guess I consider it cheating because it hasnt been raw? My biggest challenge has been bread ...I've only had pita which I guess isn't that bad. Going to restaurants and watching people eat entire breadbowls or french fries has actually been not that bad. I usually feel so sick after eating fried food or too much bread. Anyways tomorrow I'm going back to the farmers market because once you go farmers it sure is hard to go back to regular fruits. The oranges and tomatoes in particular woooooooooooow! so good that I am willing to get up early on a Sunday! I guess I should be proud of...

To Raw or not to RAW that is the question

100% that is...So I have read and been trying to follow the 801010 diet for a couple weeks now and I will tell you a little about how I am feeling. Breakfast has been great! Wake up to a new day and eat a mono meal of bananas, oranges or  papaya. I try to find a sunny part of my kitchen and just sit there and enjoy. Lunch has also been a mono meal and a few hours after breakfast I am ready to have my lunch. So far so good right? well, then comes dinner time. I live with my parents and my mom makes a cooked vegan meal every night. From soups to rice and vegies, it's been really tough saying no to that and eating a salad with some orange juice. Every time I have a cooked meal I think to myself wow this is so yummy I should just give up this 801010 thing all together..but! then there's how I feel after. When I finish my meal I start feeling some stomach aches and start remembering what it's like to eat "regular" food. Then I wake up the next day starting all over a...

LENT and VEGAN

Besides the fact that Easter is my favorite holiday, keeping lent about 4 years ago was actually the first time in my life that I realized that a Vegan diet is really easy on my stomach. I have been reading 801010 but having a bit of a difficult time being in a house with cooked food and socializing with friends and staying on track.Although sometimes I would cheat on my vegan lifestyle Lent is a great time for me because it's the only time that I refuse to cheat. It also makes it easier for people around me to accept the fact that I won't eat because in my community it is socially acceptable to be on lent and give up all animal products. I do have to admit I have a had some bread here and there this weekend because sometimes I am looking for that "cheat" thrill but can't get my "high" off of dairy. I always say this is a process and it truly is. This will take time. I can't read 801010 and just all of a sudden think I will wake up and just eat fruit...

Happy Valentines Day!

Why are there Blenders on my Valentines blog? Instead of buying someone a box of chocolates or roses (well you should probably do that anyway) if you really love someone you want them to be with you as long as possible right? Well then get them a tool that will help them eat healthy and stick around for a while! Adding fruits and vegetables to your diet will really change your life. I really do believe that. Add a dash of love to that equation and you have got the best life ever! I love you all and I hope that you find some love today but first and foremost within yourself. <3
